Bob is correct. If you discard the Hireling, you lose anything he is carrying.

From Munchkin 4 and 5 rules:

Quote:
• If your Hireling is killed, you loot the body yourself and keep
the items.
Is this rule wrong too, or in this specific case you CAN keep the items? What would kill a Hireling besides the Kill a Hireling GUAL card?

Thanks.

The only other way that I know of for a Hireling to die is if you sacrifice it after failing your run away roll.

In other words, would I always loose the item carried by a Hireling, regardless of the reason why I lost possession of it (i.e. either being killed, transferred to another player, lost by a curse, sacrificed to automatic escape)?

Thanks

No, the rule is not wrong. I'm not in a position to search through all the cards in the database to tell you all the ways a Hireling can be killed, however. Even if there is only one possible way, it doesn't matter: The rule is there and its correct.

So according to your answer, if we think on:

- Sacrificing a Hireling to run away;
- Loosing possession of a Hireling to another player;
- Discarding a Hireling due to a Curse;
- The Hireling gets killed.

The only case in which the owner can keep the item being carried by a Hireling is when the Hireling gets killed. Is this right?

Andrew's answer seems the clearest in this regard:

In any instance where the Hireling is DISCARDED, you lose what he is carrying.

And this quote from MM addresses when he's not discarded:

If he is simply "changing loyalty" - eg: stolen by another player - then the item attached to him goes with him.

That's, at least, how we've always played it. Doesn't mean it's right, but it's a simple, bright-line rule.
