Laminated and all-metal are mutually exclusive. How can you have a laminated wood construction in a shield with no wood?

I thought it could be two-layer like duplex plate and take advantage of different metal properties.

Adding a hilt does seem a bit perverse, effectively offering a huge bonus to weapons for not already having a hilt in their stats. Makes a hilted off-hand parrying hatchet seem like a really useful thing to have.

I guess for most of them it realistically wouldn't matter because you're using an attack with U parry, and possibly also one that makes the weapon unready. But there are exceptions, like the fighting stick.

Other than that they don't seem too bad. Though using the Stabby-Smasher's long spear functionality with Axe/Mace skill seems off. As does using a 3-yard weapon one-handed.

Why do metal shields have the same DR as wooden shields?

Not quite sure on that one myself. These are light metal shields; -25% weight instead of double weight like they are in Basic.

Significantly thinner than the wooden shields, from the looks of things.

Not thin enough, I think.

Metal is more than slightly stronger than wood for its weight. A -25% weight reduction should not yield the same strength.

That's why I thought DR 6 was more appropriate, like other metal items. Potentially DR 7. But you end up with less HP because of the weight reduction, so metal shields even so aren't as durable as I would have thought.
