I'm new: Game flow question

Ok, so I just bought this game and it's pretty fun. I'm playing with a bunch of friends and relatives that are new as well. We're enjoying the game, but we're having a bit of a problem.

Nearly every game ends up with all 4 (usually) of us at level 9, with the person who wins being the first person to pull a monster once everyone has run out of cards to buff opponent's monsters with. Is this how it always goes?

It's getting repetitive, and I'm thinking it's probably just they way we're playing it or the fact that we've played less then 10 games. I was also thinking that there might be an expansion that helps change up the game play

FYI: I have Munckins and the dungeon expansion
