Since its not an item and the Ranger ability states that you cannot give it away or even trade it I would say no; it should just get discarded.

It is important to note though that it can be lured away by cards that specifically affect steeds, such as Lurina Steed Chow and Mating Call.

uh... awkward question... why didn't you just sacrifice the steed to escape? but, that aside, i would venture to guess that it could be an item up for grabs, at least, that's how i'd call it after many moments of loud yelling and screaming among friends.

Steeds cannot be sacrificed for automatic escape and you can only discard a Steed before running away if it provides a bonus or penalty to run away.

Hirelings are the ones with that ability to sacrifice themselves to allow you to automatically escape.

Steeds aren't items unless they have a value printed on them, no amount of shouting should change the basic item rules.

And since the death rules say "cards" and not "items", I'd say they can be looted just like any other card.

Um. Yeah.

You're right. So I guess you can take the tamed steed. Sorry I should have read the death rules closer.

The more I think about it, it could go either way....I'll admit at this point I have no idea what the official answer will be.

Except this isn't a "normal" steed, it's a tamed monster, and there are limits to what you can do with a tamed monster, defined by the Ranger class.

I agree that a tamed monster cannot be taken at death...but, I could see an argument that another Ranger could take him from you if there was one in play.

I would think if somebody took it from a death, it'd just be back to a normal monster card in their hand. I'm sure that's how we'd play it here.

It should be noted here that ALL Steed cards are Items (I'm hard pressed to remember one that isn't), so the tamed Monster Steed is still a Monster card.

Yup.

And, yet, it's still a Steed and it's one of your cards, in play, that can be looted.

Well, you can loot a tamed Monster at Death. The cards from Death looting go into your hand, so this is no different than the Monster cards a player who has just died had in his hand: They go into the looters hand and since it is a Monster card, you can't play it as a Steed.
