There are two separate issues here - one is Charity and one is excess Big Items.

You cannot have a Big Item in your hand, because the CARDS in your hand are not items until they are brought into play. If one of the six cards in your hand WOULD BE a Big Item if played, you can give it to someone for Charity - it remains just A CARD as it enters their HAND. If they want to play it, then considerations of Bigness apply.

If you must get rid of a BIG ITEM FROM PLAY, this is a separate issue. Then, you may only give it to a player who may accept a Big ITEM.
