Big Item Rule

Question:
As the lower level player, must I accept the big item that was forced to be given away or can I reject it making them discard it(or give it to another player)?
I ask because perhaps I don't want to have the restriction added from having the Big Item because it might be worth No Value, or I have plans to put down a better Big Item from my hand when it is my turn. Some Big Items are class/race restricted and basically it is possible to hurt the lower level player rather than help them if they are forced to accept it.
