Got it. The short version: "Marketing!" The slightly longer one: "Most gamers will buy GURPS Low-Tech to support their fantasy campaigns with more weapons, armor, and expedition gear, so we focused on those things. Gamers who want to do world simulations with detailed architecture, economics, politics, etc. are a very, very small niche, so we punted that material to the supporting works." Needless to say, the degree to which somewhat realistic world simulation is favored by GURPS players is grossly distorted on these forums; clearly, there's a strong correlation between "hangs out on our forums" and "likes detailed simulations." Meanwhile, the other 98% of the readership buys books without ever coming in here.
