Hi, I was just looking for some clarification on the big 2010 changes. The original core set is now supposed to have recolored cards and reworded text on, right?
As for the expansions, the rules for that did not change and if they were, it would've been included in the General Rules Changelog? So what exactly am I supposed to do to get updated with the current rules without buying my set over again? Does Munchkin: Go Up A Level have the new cards corresponding to the current rules(Updated June 2010) that will replace every single card in need of replacing? Right now, if I'm correct, all I pretty much have to do right now is buy Munchkin: Go Up a Level and download the new rule sheet(which should've implemented the rule changes?), correct? |

Most of your questions are explicitly answered on the GUAL product page.
Visually, the big difference is that the fantasy Munchkin line is going from "brown on brown" to full color. The text changes primarily affect the fantasy Munchkin set, but every* Munchkin set and expansion is affected to some degree. The biggest changes, like the wholesale rewording of some cards, are reflected in the GUAL set. Minor changes, like the change on monster enhancers from "to Level of Monster" to "to Monster," are not substantial enough to be included in that set. So, do you need to rebuy your collection? Our intention is that you can buy GUAL as a "patch set" to avoid exactly that. Will buying GUAL make your old set indistinguishable from the new printings? No; there'll still be some minor wording variations, and of course the old fantasy cards will still be brown-on-brown, but it'll be close enough for your intended use of "download the new rules, apply the GUAL patch, and play." The other key advantage is that GUAL will come out before some of the reprints. For myself, I'll be doing some of both, as I have multiple sets and want to get them up to speed as quickly as I can. My split-deck set of fantasy Munchkin will get the GUAL patch, and then when the complete set of color reprints come out, I'll divide that color set and use my patched set as my one-big-deck fantasy set. My Cthulhu and Bites sets will follow the same trend, with the combination getting set aside as I patch the standalone sets, and then I'll replace the standalone sets with new prints and mix the patched sets together into a new combined deck. But then, my needs are different than most, and as most people don't own multiple copies of the same set, one GUAL set will do the job just fine for them. :) -- *With the exception of Munchkin 6, Munchkin Dice, the boosters, and any new expansion published after April 2010 - none of which have any cards that will be replaced in the GUAL set. The color reprint of Munchkin 6 does change a couple of cards, but they're little changes. |

Also, the fantasy GUAL cards are NOT full color. They match the color scheme of the existing cards.
Going back to vacation-lurk-mode now.

Only way to go with my original stash of Munchkin and the new sets coming out.
I plan on buying about 4 GUAL's so I don't have to chuck 4 sets of Fantasy Munchkin. I have a ton of money invested with these demo decks and my personal, get folks to sign them deck, not too. A mix of old and new also, because I like the old Munchkin fellow. The new one is nice, but the old one looked more geeky and nerdy. Pat

I thought about getting multiple GUAL packs, but my Blender set (Fantasy, Fu, Star, Blender) is old enough that it needs to be retired...especially my set of Fantasy 1-3 with the dark Door backs. I'm pulling some autograph fodder from that, as well as a few extra cards (like Elf cards to have on hand for a certain Dungeon), but otherwise I want more up-to-date demo decks.
That's not to say I'm chucking the old cards out - they still make excellent spares - but I am pulling 'em off the line. |
