Sure. The reality of things is that the rules do not allow for you to not roll to Run Away (without some card driven exception). The explanation in the FAQ, though giving you some color that's not really important with respect to game play, doesn't say anything less. As for choosing to look for trouble from a Monster you can't beat, or won't fight you, or gives you the choice as to whether to fight or not, that is all perfectly within the rules.
