Default Discarding items that are part of a deal

Here's the thing. I believe that when you make a deal with someone to help you like "you get the two treasures if you help me" you are obliged to actually have your helper get the treasures right?

In this case the deal was that my helper got the treasure AND one of my items. Before we defeated the monster I decided, as a thief, to discard an item in order to steal something and I discarded the item that was part of the deal. Now, it is very mean, very nasty, but I also thought it was very funny and legit. We had some discussion about it, but as owner of the game I decided to go on with it and so we did.
He was angry with me and I didn't get a slice of his pizza, but I wonder whether it's actually legit or not. Can someone tell me?

Thanks

It technically IS legit just not something you want to do. You did not follow your original deal. You refused to give him an item that you promised him for helping you and You SHOULD honor any deal that you make (even if the situation changes) or else no one will help you in future games.

Now if you had made the deal, beat the monster, given him the item THEN discarded something to steal it back....that would have been a better play.

Hell yeah! I have done that many times... BUT I would never renege a deal...

When you make a deal with one of your items in play it must remain in play even when it goes to the person you promised it to.

As long as its in on the table and a small item you can discard any of your cards to attempt to take it back.

But what if someone else makes you discard an item with a curse for example. Could you decide to discard the item you promised to someone else? Or only if it's the only small item you've got?
