Default Wand of Dowsing

There are some questions our group forces me to post for clarification. Here is one of them, though I suspect I know the answer already.

Wand of Dowsing is a Treasure Card that states: Go through the discards and take 1 card that you want and place it in your hand.

Seems obvious to me that both piles of discards should be available for this search, but my friends play that *only* the Treasure pile may be searched.

Ruling pls? :D

If it were restricted to the Treasure discards, I would hope we'd have made that clearer by now. However, it's not restricted at all, and you can search through either discard pile.

If it is not restricted, potentially it could also allow you to search through any of the three other Discard piles, if they exist in your game:

Cultist Discards
Dungeon Discards
Fairy Dust Discards

as discussed here.

However, it is not clear to me whether the Fairy Dust "out of the game" cards count as discards. Andrew, in the thread listed above, says that a promo item can be used to recover Fairy Dust Cards...but he doesn't mention Dowsing. That may be an oversight, or it may be that the promo item can do something Dowsing can't.

It is also not clear to me what happens when you get a Dungeon card and put it in your hand. What happens to it next?

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest those other three are "special" discards and do not count towards wand of dowsing....that's how we'd play it anyway.

You cannot Dowse Dungeon cards because Dungeon cards never go in your hand. That is official.

I would allow Dowsing for Cultists (best. band name. ever.) and haven't absolutely decided about Fairy Dust yet, though I'm inclined to allow it.

I've never allowed it, nor to my knowledge, is it sanctioned by Andrew or Erik.
It slows the game down way to much.

You aren't allowed to search the discards until you actually play the card.

The new rules are clear: you cannot look through the discards unless and until you play a card that allows you to do so.
