Default Curse Priority Question

Lets say someone is in combat and declares they are going to use their ranger ability to make the monster their mount.
Can you then use your curse to remove their class making it so they can not use that ranger ability or do the curses not work that way?

One argument is that since he declared he was going to make it his mount the curse would not take effect until after his ability took effect. While the other is that the curse "counters" his move and stops him.

If the ability requires discards, and you can sneak the Curse in between the statement and the discards, then you may block the action. If it does not require discards, or the discards have already been made, then the Curse does not take effect until the action is resolved.

Andrew, this seems contradictory to other "timing" rulings, in that once an action has begun, it has to resolve before anything else happens.

This implies that there is a window wherein you can interrupt declared actions by simply being louder and faster than your opponent, literally interrupting their gameplay.

To which I say "What???"

The difference is that you can say you're going to tame that monster all day long, but you don't actually make the attempt until you put your money where your mouth is, discard the card, and make the roll. If someone curses you before you make the discard, the taming action hasn't begun, so you resolve the curse.

Yeah, in order not to get "interrupted" by declaring an action, be sure to discard for no evident reason and then explain why you did it. Creates more confusion, but at least ninjas won't stop you that way.
