Default Odd situation

The other night i was playing munchkin. I had drawn a monster which i could beat easily, being i was level 9 everyone wanted to stop me but they had no real card to do so. One of them played the card fleeing powder i believe which forces the player(s) to run away. The particular monster had some really bad stuff so i decided to polymorph it instead. This cause a huge argument they said i couldn't do that, but i see no reason why i was unable to polymorph it instead of facing the bad stuff on it.

For the answer i just want to do could i have polymorphed it, and would i have still been able to collect the treasure.

I haven't found anything about this so far.

Thanks!

Pollymorph Potion must be played during combat. Once they forced you to flee, you weren't fighting anymore. Magic Lamp would have been a legal play, however.
