Default Chez Cthulhu

Hey, I'm sorry if this is a FAQ, or a really simple one that I may be overlooking,
But I am confused about Action Cards in C.C.

I understand that 1 Free Time = 1 Action card. However, what happens after you use the action card? In the rules it says you put it in your room. Does that mean that you can keep playing more and more action cards? (I had built up about 8, it didn't seem right.) Also, do they ever get discarded? And can you use whichever ones you want per turn? It seems like that would be an OP way to get slack (using 2 actions that gave you 2 slack, for 4 slack total every turn.) I hope someone can either clarify this or give me a full run-down on how actions work. Thanks in advance.

No, Free Time equals an action. You can either Shop (blue card), Do something (Red card) or nothing. One Red card = a Free Time. Your job tells your what your free time is. You can only take that amount of actions/free time.

So you look at your job card and what your Free Time / Income is and base your actions off the amount free time you have. Also, Red Action Cards may cost you income, so you can only do how many you can afford.

Just to recap: You don't keep them on the playing field? You use them once then they go away?

That's incorrect. You play an activity, it stays. You buy stuff, you keep it. There are some cards that can take them away from you, but otherwise you don't just discard stuff.

Obviously, "Whenever" cards are a different story, but as a rule, assume that if a card gives you Slack, something has to MAKE you discard it.

Okay, and one more then I'll be done.

Since it stays on the field, could you use the same activities that you have already played previously? Like if you had play Computer games and you got the 2 slack, could you use it next turn (assuming you had free time) to get 2 more slack?

No, you can't do that.

This was something I found very unclear when I first played Chez *.

Your playing of red and blue cards is constrained by your Free Time and Income. Once you play one, though, it stays on the table until something takes it away. It gives you its Slack value (once), and you lose that much Slack if it goes away.

A system I've found quite handy is to start with a pile of glass beads equal in number to the Slack goal, stacked next to the Job card. When I gain Slack, the beads are taken away from there and put on the card that gave them (if possible). When the card is taken away, they go back next to the Job card. This way everyone can see who's close to winning...

That works well, except for Chez Cthulhu because it's possible to have Slack that isn't 'attached' to any specific card. For example, Sacrifice gives you slack for getting rid of a card.

Now you've got two loose piles of slack markers that might get confused.
