When I get cursed by "Cursed Thingy" do I have to place the curse on an active item?
I understood from this post that I can't put it on a one-time use only item, but may I put it on a permanent item that is not being used, i.e. turned sideways? Last edited by Lolly; 05-12-2010 at 03:51 AM. |

I'm surprised nobody answered this one.
I've wondered the same thing... I don't have the card in front of me, but I don't think it says it has to be an "active" item... so you could keep an extra sword on the table sideways for the "just in case I get cursed thingy" I don't know if this is true though |

Then again, an Item you aren't using doesn't "[give] a combat bonus" at the given moment, so it's understandable why some people might not be sure. Regardless of what I've said in the past, I'm actually under the impression that Items you are not using can be cursed by Cursed Thingy.

Sorry, MM, we have some discussion on our local Russian forum about your above comment. In particular next sentence:
Some dictionaries tell us that you are earlier mistakenly thought that Cursed Thingy can be applied on items that I'm not using. And another tell us that now you ruled in the way that Cursed Thingy can be applied on such items. So please give us unambiguous answer: can Cursed Thingy affect items that player not using at the given moment?

Going from memory, I believe that I have always allowed it, but I could be mistaken about that because it's not something I have ever had an overly strong opinion about. Hence my concern to say that regardless of what I may have said anywhere, whether it be here or the mailing list or to your face, in the distant past, the ruling I'm giving now is the one it should be. I also think that Andrew and I had a somewhat recent discussion, possibly in the public eye on these forums, about this topic, which is what I was trying to convey about my current impressions.

So, it would seem that what I said was true. I could be wearing +3 armour and carrying a 2-handed weapon and have some junky armour and weapons on the table turned sideways...
THEN, if I'm hit by cursed thingy, I can just curse the sword I'm not using. Pretty useless curse than if you ask me because the only thing it stops is you selling that item. Up til now, my friends and I have read it as "it gives you a combat bonus" and well, sideways items don't actively give you a bonus. I know you covered this part, but I guess as a house rule. |
