I've got that STAR TREK scenario that I am running this Saturday using GURPS and i ran into a problem trying to convert characters from GURPS: PRIME DIRECTIVE.
What is this odd skill called OPERATIONS(specify type) that I keep seeing? Its in the GURPS:Prime Directive book in the character samples and the template for Starfleet Academy graduates. I cannot fiund what it translates to as a GURPS 4/e skill. Also they give all those sample characters the advantage disease resistentance and I was trying to find that in the GCA choices and couldn't. Os this actually pan-immunity or phrased differently in GURPS 4th edition and my memory is just foggy today? I am trying to create 6 to 8 pre-generated characters for players to pick from for a game session on Saturday night. - Ed Charlton

IDHMBWM but as I recall Operations was a new skill introduced in the Gurps Klingons book and only apeared in Klingon accademy templates. It's found a few pages after the templates in the book. IIRC it's sort of a highly specialized military administration skill. I don't recall seing it on any of the starfleet templates in the main book at all. IIRC disease resistance is in the star fleet templates in the book and yes it is the 4th edition answer to panimunity.

IIRC, it was also in GURPS WWII. It was the skill of the middle-ranking officers; lower officers needed Tactics, senior officers needed Strategy, and the middle managers needed Operations. As rkbrown said, it was largely administrative/logistic.

I assume by this that means you have the GURPS 3rd edition version?

The book on the cover has the 4th edition GURPS logo stripe and says it is PRIME DIRECTIVE for the 4/e version of GURPS. Thats why that strange skill name threw me. - Ed Charlton

The skill entry for it is on page 100, top of the second column. Unless you already knew that and then ignore this as me being my normal overly helpful* self. Edit: it reads to me as something like the Officer version of the Soldier skill. * Or what my wife would call, "Yes, I already knew that, you didn't have to explain it to me again.

I now have a copy of the 3rd edition version of GURPS: PRIME DIRECTIVE - oh yeah, there are lots of things that should've been changed when converting to 4th that weren't.
For one thing the Tone section should've had the point totals altered to the new starting levels. - Ed Charlton

Starfleet Academy Template This is basically the Star Fleet Academy Template from GURPS Prime Directive published by the Amarillo Design Bureau. If you're a player character in [insert your Star Trek campaign here], you must take the Star Fleet Academy Template and the TL11 Everyman Lens (5 points). You have the option of playing a race other than human; if you're interested you should look at the Federation Race Descriptions. (IIRC, Tactics/Strategy was first expanded into Soldier/Tactics/Operations/Strategy in Special Ops 2e or 3e)

I've got a couple of the PD books, the updating to 4th Edition isn't perfect and there are definitely some artefacts from 3rd Edition in there.
