Having read and occasionally contributed to the "Is Dodge Overpowering" thread, I have not yet had some of my points of view addressed to my satisfaction.
I know that you cannot All-Out Defend (even dodging) while sprinting at full speed (as AoD reduces you to half move at best) - but can you Dodge? And would this reduce you to normal speed? And what about other types of dodge, such as Acrobatic? Frenzied? In my personal opinion, if you are sprinting, you are putting all effort into going forward just as fast as you can. Anything devoted to doing anything else will detract from your forward motion. But I would welcome a ruling from the Powers that Be. Can you dodge effectively while sprinting? Cheers, Ack |

you forgot to include the question about awareness of thing while running & sprinting
a Partial answer for you. Question: can you clarif wither or not Arcobatic dodge would intrupt the straight line moment nessary to continue claiming the sprinting bonus? Quote:

Well, if you don't mind complicating things here's what I would rule...
First off, a Perception roll to notice the attack, (im assuming it's a ranged attack, a close quarters attack would be obvious and thus no need for a roll). If sucessfull the character would be aloud to Dodge and Drop. Making a DX roll to avoid hurting himself due to the uncontrolable speed his in. Otherwise normal bonuses would aply. I would not allow him to dodge without loosing his sprinting bonuses. Dodge is a full body defense, not just waist up, when you're sprinting you're using all the coordination and strength in your legs to move forward, breaking that heading would be difficult and could probably result in a fall. Thus falling on purpose seems the best reasoning. If the character atempted to dodge without droping to the ground I would either asses a modifier (as per dificulty rules) or force him to take a DX roll to avoid falling and potentially hurting himself. In a cinematic setting I would see no problem at all. |
