Default Question about usable only once items

In the rules it states any item can be place in front of you as carried. My question is can you do this with one shot items as well? If so, do you have to indicate before you open the door if the one shot item is going to be used or can you just use it when you need it (as if you were taking it from your hand?)

Whether a treasure card is usable once or not doesn't matter. The only that that matters is whether it is an item or not, which is determined by whether it has a price in the lower right corner on the card. If it has a price, it can be placed with your items on the table.

Whether you keep it in your hand or place it on the table, you can use it once only at any time during combat.

So I am assuming if it is in front of you, then you don't have to declare that you are using it before a battle starts? Is there a limit to the number of potions you can have in front of you (most of them don't have hand restrictions).

None of them should have hand restrictions and the rules tell you that you may carry any number of small Items.

So:
  1. Hand restriction doesn't matter with respect to Items you are carrying, only Items that you are using.
  2. You can carry an unlimited number of small Items.
  3. The rules tell you that you can play one-shot Items (like potions) from the table (i.e, carried).

Which means, you can have as many potions in play as you want, and since they don't have any hand restrictions, you can use all the ones you were carrying or happen to have in your hand during any combat, even one you're not in. And, finally, if you want to use a one-shot Item, you need to "discard" it. So, to use it, it's not whether you have it out in front of you, but that you have actively put it into the combat (after which, the actual discarding will occur).

Yes, if you have any "usable once only" items in play (on the table in front of you) and you are cursed with "Lose one small item" then yes you can discard that item.
