Aiming only applies to Missile Spells

Waiting for an Opening (ITL 127) only applies to a regular or “aimed shot” attack. and the only spells that roll for an attack (rather than a casting) are the missile spells.

Fencers however can make excellent use of the waiting game. Wait for two turns behind your (DX-1 (or -2 with Shield Expertise))/5d defend option then do a shrew thrust at DX 12 -4 +2 = adjDX 10 for 2d+2 with a very fine rapier.
