Far too late of course to ask this question but is the $60 kickstarter target too low?
Chaosium is doing bumper business with CoC 7 ed. Quote:
In today's economy, bigger is better. (Without debating the merits of the platforms, where does the money go? iOS vs android, or Rolls Royce vs Ford). If the kickstarter came out in hardback, limited edition, amazing graphics etc for $200, would I hesitate? Of course not, it would be just like this: Add to shopping cart |

I would opt for the lower priced one for two reasons. -- It is cheaper for me. -- It is cheaper for new players who might try out TFT, but are not yet fans. Warm regard, Rick. |

I'm on a very tight budget, and at the moment may not even be able to dip into my pocket when the game is launched - (which is one of the reasons I want to do as much as I can to promote it in other ways.) and like Rick says - For newcomers that are not familiar with it, they may be reluctant to drop a large wedge of money on something they don't know about. Those of us that already have the old books and games are likely buying in more to show support, than actually needing to replace old stuff. |

I'd pay more if the aesthetic and utilitarian quality of the product warranted a higher price.

I think SJGs has done exactly the right thing -- $60 is much more likely to attract new gamers than something like the new Masks of Nyarlathotep at $139 or CoC 7th rules at $169.
Besides, if it does well, then plenty of new stuff will start rolling down the production pipeline, and we'll all have opportunities to pay lots for all the new goodies! ;-) (And frankly, who am I kidding? I budgeted $250 for this originally, and I strongly suspect that if I can buy multiple copies of both the Legacy Edition AND Melee and Wizard stand alone copies, I'll spend every penny of it doing so -- it's a great (and cheap) way to get more gamers involved!) |

Sixty will fit in my budget, but I have seen people on Facebook say "I hope I can afford this."

As someone who has never played TFT and will only buy it because of brand loyalty and good reviews, I think $60 is a good price. If it was $200, I may as well just buy an old copy on ebay.

$60 for the boxed set is a great price point to me. I would also be more than happy to buy Melee and Wizard in a shop for twenty bucks each. Much more than that and it gets harder to justify as an impulse buy or quick play game. Certainy one of the things keeping me out of 5e D&D is the expense of multiple full colour hardcovers.
I did plump for ODE, but that brought a LOT of stuff and I have been playing Ogre steadily for decades. TFT I haven't played since high school. |

$60 does seem like a very reasonable price for a Kickstarter, especially as this one will consist of two board games and a full RPG. However, I have to factor in postage and customs charges to the UK, so I’d be surprised if I have any change from £100 sterling.

1) I think you are going to be even more pleased than you have been with his many other great designs, and; 2) In a way, I envy you the experience you are about to have -- I can only compare it to starting to read Lord of the Rings, and realizing a couple of chapters into Fellowship of the Ring, just how much you're going to enjoy the entire trilogy... Welcome to TFT and boy, is it an amazing ride! ;-) |
