Halfling Hireling and Wand of Dowsing

I just played Halfling Hireling and then use Wand of Dowsing (and discard it, as it saying on card).
Is Wand of Dowsing will return to my hand?

Please, only official answer or proof.

Yes, in that instance, you would get Wand of Dowsing back.

so, ANY first one-shot Item which I play will return to my hand? because I discard it after use.
what about one-shot Item used during combat (and discarded after combat)?

I try to understand, it's only about discard items, or discard after use too.
