Yes, because it's a level gained as a result of killing a monster.

Most helpers don't. The Elf's special ability gives them a level, however.

What if the monster gives 2 levels, or there are two monsters that give 1 level each? Helper takes 2 levels or 1? I've ruled it for 2 but i wonder if that's the correct intention of Elf's special ability.

Elf helper gain only one level for each Monster, no matter how many levels gives a monster. Elf gets only one for each.
