say i am a guy and dont want to give away a card so i put down infront of me a sword only usable by females that requires one hand, i turn it sideways to show i'm not (and cant) use it, but lets say i am using a 2 handed object at the same time, can you carry (cards infront of you) more than 2 hands worth?

Yes. Items you are not using do not count as being taken up by the "slots" that you would need to have open to use them. Basically, they are on your person, in some form or fashion, but they are not being used, so a Hand Item that you are not using would not be in your Hand, Headgear, Armor, or Footgear are not being worn, etc. So, what this means is that you can play Armor you can't use even if the only reason you can't use it is because you're already using Armor. Likewise, you could put 20 Hand Items in play, but you can only use as many as your Hand count will allow.

O-Big-atory clarification: you may only have one Big item on the table at a time, unless you have some ability that supersedes this rule. (Notably, a Dwarf ignores the restriction completely.)
