With rumour and hearsay being the most reliable forms of news available to most people a lot of people fear the unknown and modern myths and legendary monsters.
As for real things that strike fear into people's hearts, there is a Sixer. A sixer starts life as a typical category 4 or 5 storm and then encounters a high altitude dust storm. The dust storm is then sucked into the main storm creating nightmarish conditions, every once and while a major air current like the Gulf Stream is pulled in with the dust storm thus supercharging the whole weather event.
