There have been several (I'd go so far as to say
numerous) threads on the forum about Magic-as-Powers, some just debating pros and cons, some getting into specific builds. Also, Psionic Powers and Powers: Divine Favor are two books with great examples of implemented powers. There's an upcoming Thaumatology book that promises to give us Chinese Elemental Magic-as-Powers, which I'm greatly looking forward to. However, if money is an obstacle for you right now, you should be able to find plenty of examples and help here on the forum.
