As an example; the ST16 Battleaxe wielded can still swing his axe with full effect at ST4 after taking several "wounds." He only suffers a detriment when his ST reaches 3. So does that mean that every blow before reaching ST3 is just bumps and bruises or fatigue? Possibly, in which case they should be easy to recover from. However, once ST reaches 3 or less, there is a penalty and perhaps that should be the point at which you are truly "wounded" and need extended time to recover.
For those (like me) who like to blend rules from games together, TFT could easily do something like Fate's consequences. Here's a first crack:

WOUNDS

When a hit triggers a "reaction to injury", the attacker names the wound (appropriately) with a phrase and it stays on the victim's sheet until the wound is fully healed. Once each combat until the wound is healed, one enemy can take advantage of the wound for a +1 DX or +1 damage (their option).

Any time a situation comes up in play outside of combat where an injury would hinder a character (based on the name of the injury), the character gets -1 if a roll is involved or, if no roll is involved, must make a 3/ST or 3/DX saving throw as appropriate in order to avoid an ill effect.
