The Ferengi shown tend to be loyal to kith and kin and many sometimes do heroic feats for them. Once in a while they will even risk their lives for strangers as Quark did when he fought a "duel" with a Klingon.
A merchant people being antisocial is the height of absurdity. It renders mercantile practice inefficient.

Deep Space Nine did a lot to rehabilitate the total idiots we saw in TNG although they remained petty chiselers rather than creditable mercantile villains.
