I would say the giant gets to choose, both because hugely powerful people should be dangerous in melee combat (who here would be afraid to get into a boxing ring with a 7 year old?), and because I don't think it makes sense for someone who just failed a DX roll and got knocked on their backside to dictate terms as to what their foe does next.
