Re: casting spells where you don't know the cost like Counterspell
As a house rule or a Perk, a mage could have a "magic fuse" that cuts out after they burn a certain amount of FP or HP. They still lose the energy invested up to that level, but no more.
That means that spells like Banish or Counterspell just fail rather than putting the mage into a coma.
