Deus Ex Machinegun

Dues Ex Machine gun states "Play during any combat" May I play it in a combat I am not in. The question came up, because the card refers to "you" multiple times. It was played on another players combat to prevent them from gaining the levels and treasures from the fight. Was this a legal play?

"You" is the recipient of the effects of the card. If the cards said "Play while you are in combat," or, "When you are in combat, play this card," then there would definitely be a limit to who could play the card.
