The Kevinator vs. 2 munchkins

If I am Fighting Kevinator(the Guild) who gets +5 against anyone, and some one else helps me he doesn't get an additional +5? We were playing that basically he would be 30 combat strength if 2 munchkins were in he fight.

I'll leave this one to Andrew, since he's had a lot to do with the design process on this one.

While I also will accept Andrew's ruling if this card is somehow meant to be treated differently to other cards, shouldn't this be the same as one creature being powered up against Elves only getting one bonus no matter how many Elves are present?

There's two ways to look at it:
  1. Since the bonus has already been applied, it doesn't get re-applied.
  2. Since it's a bonus against everyone, it's a bonus against Elves, and it's a bonus against Clerics, and so on. So, unless the two players are identical, then the bonus would have to get added again.

Now, I'm leaning towards 1., but it's early, I haven't had my coffee, and, well, I don't have the design insight on this, and this was internal playtest only, so I never saw the card or had discussions about it before the set was released, so I have no desire to commit to something I don't have all the facts on.

Option 1 makes the most sense to me. If it were meant to be "+5 vs clerics, +5 vs elves, +5 vs gnomes, etc etc" then you'd have to give him +5 for every race and class you have. And that just doesn't seem right. If the design intent was for Kevin to get more powerful when you add more people to fight him, then a better wording for the card would have been "Kevinator receives +5 for each player he is in combat with".

But yeah, Andrew will have the final say, of course.

It's a flat +5. Doesn't stack for multiple players.

Just got our guild cards in the mail today. I like them and really enjoyed the show. Looking forward to new episodes.

I do have a question regarding Kevinator. If it is +5 against everyone, why not just make it a level 25?

Thanks,
John

I'd guess, because it's funnier this way. ;-)

I mean, there may be some boring explanation about 20 being a cap set on all Munchkin Monsters across the board, and something to do with the distinction between Level and Combat Strength, but I'd be happy enough with the idea that, of the possible ways to make him "equivalent" to a Level 25 Monster, giving him +5 vs. everybody was the funniest way to do it.

I was guessing that, but then thought maybe there was a card someplace that might negate the +5 in some way. There may be some cards that refer to a monster's "level" and in this case Kevin would be a 20, but would have an effective combat level of 25? Who knows? I did get a chuckle though.

The set is funny. Love the use of 'd on some of the cards. My favorite card is "Elected Guild Leader". Is this an example of a "special"? Can a special like this be played on somebody else, or only to myself?

I've wondered that myself. I think they said you can only play it on yourself, though I find that odd, partly because it is strange that you can ONLY elect YOURSELF Guild Leader, and partly because I find the effect of this card is such that I would almost NEVER play it on myself, while I WOULD likely play it on others if allowed. A few extra treasures doesn't, in my mind, balance out the very real possibility of losing multiple levels to this card. If you only lost a level when somebody DIED in combat, maybe, but as it is, this seems likely to be a very poor deal (at least the way MY games usually go).
