Musketeer GDF File

I have a GDF for the Musketeer from Pyramid 3-36 up at the GCA Repository called MK GURPS Musketeer Template.gdf. It does not have the modifiers yet as I am now starting them. I was wondering if somebody could check it to see if I did it correctly as this is my first template and I am still fairly new to the rules.

Some notes. I created the skill Fast-Draw (Musketeer's ammo) so as to not write over the existing one. The Gun Fu stuff I set to take Musket, Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun as that is what this template seems limited to.

The files is here http://www.motoslave.net/gcarepo/view.php?pkgid=117

I'm on it. Do I need to load anything besides Basic Set 4e, Magic 4e, and the Dungeon Fantasy files?

Re: Musketeer GDF File

Requires=GURPS Basic Set 4th Ed.--Characters.gdf, GURPS Martial Arts 4e.gdf, GURPS Gun Fu 4e.gdf, GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 1 - Adventurers.gdf

Excellent, I'm gonna check it out now.

Just gonna piggy-back my Demolisher template on your thread:
Demolisher Template
Requires= GURPS Basic Set 4th Ed.--Characters.gdf, GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 1 - Adventurers.gdf, GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 3 - Next Level.gdf

I haven't included mines, bandoleers, or spiky bits yet, but I think it is otherwise complete.

edit need fuses, too

Re: Musketeer GDF File

I keep coming up with a 245point character. Is there something I'm supposed to add manually? Maybe Modifiers will straighten it out. I built a few Musketeers with different options applied.

edit: forgot to say "point"

fwiw:

Attributes and 2ndary Characteristics: 155
Advantages and Perks: 95
Disads: -50
Skills, Techniques: 45

EDIT:
The logging shows a TON of "Unknown directive: #new item(" popping up. Don't know if that even matters, but it might be a thing. I know a lot of the existing templates have a couple pop up.

Thanks, the select five skills were only being set to one point each instead of two. I have fixed this and will put a new version in after I finish with the stuff on page 21 in the section Side Effects and Alternate Uses. I am not going to put the vision stuff in the first paragraph. I am about done with the second paragraph. I only have the last paragraph to go.

The newitem is for the Gun Fu perks that require a gun type. I set them up to only offer the four gun types in the article.

Demolisher Template

From the version I downloaded on 2012/06/01 10:03 CDT.

Errors:
  1. The advantage "Weapon Master (Shattersand)" (line 51) is missing a comma between its description() and x() tags.
  2. The equipment "Small Bomb" (line 127) is missing a comma between its displayweight() and page() tags.
  3. The equipment "Medium Bomb" (line 132) is missing a comma between its displayweight() and page() tags.
  4. The equipment "Large Bomb" (line 137) is missing a comma between its displayweight() and page() tags.
  5. The equipment "Huge Bomb" (line 142) is missing a comma between its displayweight() and page() tags.
  6. The equipment "Bangers (String of 20)" (line 148) is missing a comma between its displayweight() and page() tags.
Comments:
  1. When including the uses() tag, don't include unnecessary math operations; i.e. uses(count*1) would be better written as uses(count) since the result is exactly the same. [in reference to equipment "Firebolt" (line 156)]

Errors:
  1. The header declares the file to be encoded in UTF-8, but it is not. Since UTF-8 is the way forward for the data files, you should re-encode with your favorite editor (preferably: UTF-8, no BOM).
  2. The header declares the file to use version one of the GCA data file format, but it is using version three. It looks like you've co-opted the header Version variable for use as a release number, don't do that. Version is specifically for setting the data file format version and should, currently, be left at the value of three (i.e. Version=3). [see: GCA Data File Reference, pg. 14 under Header (as of the Feb. 24 version)]
Comments:
  1. The template "Musketeer (Dungeon Fantasy)" (line 172) largely does not use trait prefixes in its sets() tag; it should.

Thank you much Thomas. You actually had the quotes swapped around, but I quickly deduced that especially when you were telling Dammann that he highjacked the version number in the data file. I was thinking, hey I did that too. :D

1. Changed encoding to UTF-8. Teach me to assume file encoding.
2. Changed version back to 3. Will consider the Updated date the version number from now on.
1. Have prefixed the stats with ST:. The period at the end of the sentence is to symbolize the end of the sentence and not what I prefixed the stats with. :)

I will be uploading an update probably tomorrow when I finish the last couple things.

EDIT: Good call on the UTF-8 encoding. It was messing up the cross character on the min ST on the weapon charts. I was struggling on trying to figure out what was doing that.

No problem. I generally lint the official data files and I've been trying to remember to do that for anyone who puts files up someplace where I can get my grubby mitts on them.

Gah! I can't believe that I did that. And it's fixed. Thanks.

Yeah. Currently, about the only choice authors have is to stick something in either the Description header variable or the Author section comment. This is one of the things I want to bring up in GCA5 development once we get to revisiting the data files.

Re: Musketeer GDF File

I have updated the file on GCA Repository.

As far as the stuff on page 21 goes. I decided to not do the third paragraph on the hot loads. I do have all the modes in on the second paragraph.

I consider this complete except for bug fixes.

I will definitely help with DF15 when it is released.

TorgSmith 06-01-2012 09:15 PM

Re: Musketeer GDF File

Actually, I take it back. I am not done. Tomorrow I will add [gun name] (Hot load ammo) to the equipment list for the hot loads. This way it can be customized for each gun. When I was thinking about doing it as a modifier, I was having trouble deciding how to do it.

Dammann 06-01-2012 09:16 PM

Re: Musketeer GDF File

Updated and uploaded mine as well. Thank you for looking it all over, Thomas!

High five to TorgSmith, too! It was fun to work on these in tandem.

Re: Musketeer GDF File

I’ll give your file a good test tomorrow morning.

TorgSmith 06-02-2012 11:37 AM

Re: Musketeer GDF File

I have put a new version up with a cleanup on the equipment stats. The Hot Load modifier is not complete and the notes need to be cleaned up on the equipment.

Re: Musketeer GDF File

Just downloaded and linted both files. Nothing to report.

I also went ahead and retagged both packages to give them a bit better visibility within the Repo.

Re: Musketeer GDF File

@Dammann

Here is some of the things I found while testing the Demolisher.

I chose the Dwarf (Dungeon Fantasy) template first.
I then chose the Demolisher template.
My basic speed came out to 5.74 [-15] instead of the 6 [-10].
My basic move was correct at 5 [0]

From select2 in the template.
Not limiting (Enhanced Defense (Explosives) to 1 – 3, Enhanced Dodge to 1)
I noticed you had an Extra Luck advantage in the GDF. You should add it to this select form but limit it to one upgrade.

From select3 in template.
You do not have the worsening of Pyromania. If you choose to do it like select2, you might consider noting it in the form text.

From select4 in template.
You have an extra Odious Personal Habit (Unrefined manners).
You have an extra Odious Racial Habit (Dirty).

You do not have the worsening of Pyromania and Greed. If you choose to do it like select2, you might consider noting it in the form text. You will not want to set points to -20 if you do this.

From select7 in template.
The Connoisseur (Weapons) is not showing up. You should make it as follows.

Code:

#newitem(SK:Connoisseur (Weapons), IQ/A, default(IQ - 5), page(B185), cat(_General, Arts/Entertainment, Knowledge, Social)) #codes(upto 2pts),
I am now looking at the gear.

Re: Musketeer GDF File

Thank you! I should really take better notes as I work. I remember some of these issues, but lost track of them. I kept meaning to address the Pyromanis thing after some other matter. I knew I'd forgotten something...

I will work on those corrections and the remaining equipment tomorrow evening, then update the file at the GCA Repository.

TorgSmith 06-03-2012 02:34 PM

Re: Musketeer GDF File

Ok, I have uploaded the file again. I believe it is complete now with modifiers. Thanks for the help everybody gave me on putting this together. If anybody notices any errors, let me know.

Dammann 06-04-2012 02:44 AM

Re: Musketeer GDF File

I have uploaded the current Demolisher Template as well. All equipment is included, and it should be able to handle characters who already have the Dwarf Template applied. There was a little hiccough with adding to some Attribute Traits in the Advantage menus, but I think I have it mostly ironed out.

The modifier "Spiky Bits (Warhammer)" [line 205] has a spurious line continuation marker after its addmode() tag [line 208].

The modifiers "Spiky Bits (Axe)" [line 200] and "Spiky Bits (Warhammer)" [line 205] erroneously use #ReplaceTags Commands in place of the replacetags() tag.

In other words, this:
Code:

"Spiky Bits (Axe)", +30, page(P3/36:21), shortname(Axe Bit), group(Demolisher Gear), gives(+1 to owner::baseweight),
        #replaceTags in ("EQ:Boomstick, Single-Barreled" with minST(11†)), #replaceTags in ("EQ:Boomstick, Double-Barreled" with minST(12†)),
        #replaceTags in ("EQ:Boomstick, Triple-Barreled" with minST(13†)), #replaceTags in ("EQ:Burner" with minST(12†)),
        addmode({Axe, damage(sw+2), damtype(cut), reach(1), parry(0U), notes(), minst(%copyfirst), skillused(Two-Handed Axe/Mace)} _
        )
"Spiky Bits (Warhammer)", +50, page(P3/36:21), shortname(Warhammer Bit), group(Demolisher Gear), gives(+0.5 to owner::baseweight),
        #replaceTags in ("EQ:Boomstick, Single-Barreled" with minST(11†)), #replaceTags in ("EQ:Boomstick, Double-Barreled" with minST(12†)),
        #replaceTags in ("EQ:Boomstick, Triple-Barreled" with minST(13†)), #replaceTags in ("EQ:Burner" with minST(12†)),
        addmode({Warhammer, damage(sw+3), damtype(imp), reach(1,2*), parry(0U), notes(), minst(%copyfirst), skillused(Two-Handed Axe/Mace)}) _

Should be written like this:
Code:

"Spiky Bits (Axe)", +30, page(P3/36:21), shortname(Axe Bit), group(Demolisher Gear), gives(+1 to owner::baseweight),
        replacetags(_
                in "EQ:Boomstick, Single-Barreled" with "minST(11†)",
                in "EQ:Boomstick, Double-Barreled" with "minST(12†)",
                in "EQ:Boomstick, Triple-Barreled" with "minST(13†)",
                in "EQ:Burner" with "minST(12†)" _
        ),
        addmode({Axe, damage(sw+2), damtype(cut), reach(1), parry(0U), notes(), minst(%copyfirst), skillused(Two-Handed Axe/Mace)})
"Spiky Bits (Warhammer)", +50, page(P3/36:21), shortname(Warhammer Bit), group(Demolisher Gear), gives(+0.5 to owner::baseweight),
        replacetags(_
                in "EQ:Boomstick, Single-Barreled" with "minST(11†)",
                in "EQ:Boomstick, Double-Barreled" with "minST(12†)",
                in "EQ:Boomstick, Triple-Barreled" with "minST(13†)",
                in "EQ:Burner" with "minST(12†)" _
        ),
        addmode({Warhammer, damage(sw+3), damtype(imp), reach(1,2*), parry(0U), notes(), minst(%copyfirst), skillused(Two-Handed Axe/Mace)})

EDIT:
The template "Demolisher (Dungeon Fantasy)" [line 261] does not have a trait prefix on the IQ statistic in its sets() tag [line 269].

ok!

fixed, works with or without the Dwarf Template pre-existing
