The Munchkin Cthulhu 3 Bookmark "Doodads of Doom" states that one way you gain a Doodad is when a monster wins a fight. My group is arguing over when exactly the monster "wins a fight" term occurs.

Does a monster win the fight if the munchkin is to forced leave combat without running away, such as with the Potion of Cowardice or Power Through Fear cards?

Or do the monsters only win when the munchkin must attempt a run away, or use a card/ability that allows for an automatic run away?

NOTE: Some players are younger children/teens, so semantics is an issue.

This is correct.

If the munchkins don't remove all the monsters, then they lose.

How are they able to remove monsters if they are already running away according to the cards mentioned?

Edit: Oh... I forgot Magic Lamp. However, even if you use a Magic Lamp while running away, didn't the monster still win, but only until the moment it disappeared? Thus the doodad effect would still be triggered.

I stated the condition for losing the fight. I did not address the specific question because I thought a more general answer would be more useful for the original poster, to say nothing of forestalling a series of "What about THIS?" responses. Most people seem able to apply a general rule to a specific situation -- not so much the converse.

Thanks so much for the information! I thought if any monsters were left then a doodad would be gained, but others wanted to over-rule me.

I suppose it's implied then that the monsters "win" whenever the munchkins lose, since the OP actually asked what conditions define the monsters winning.

Honestly, if I was a monster, I wouldn't consider it a win unless I got some treasure or food out of the deal. Having my dinner soil its undergarments and run off doesn't seem much like a win.
