Cheated Kneepads of Alure
 

This seems like a fairly obvious question, but I haven't been able to find any discussion about it. The Critical Links and Useful Information thread doesn't include it as something that can be cheated, but the wording of the Cheat card suggests it should be possible. The question is: suppose I apply the cheat card to the Kneepads. Can I then use it to compel lower level characters to help me? Cheat say "this item is legal for you to USE even if it otherwise would not be."

No, the "use" in Cheat! refers to the difference between an item "in play" and "in use" - ie: Cheat! allows a non-Elf to use the Bow of Ribbons when they normally could not. It does not affect "trigger" conditions of activating the effect of a card that you have "in use" or "in play".

the cheat does not change what a weapon does. Another way of looking at it is asking if the cheat card allows me to make a bonus bigger. The answer is obviously not and likewise not being able to get lower level players to help remains the same.
