Looking for a description of the Five Man Band

I remember reading a description of the Five Man Band (see TVTropes) that gave about half a page to each archetype (and had some more material on the ancillary characters from this trope, like the old lecherous technical genius).

I thought it was in GURPS Mecha, but it's not - that lists several of the character types, but doesn't mention the 5MB specifically as far as I can tell. I thought it was a GURPS book...

It doesn't seem to be in BESM 2 or 3, either. And that covers most of the anime-based games I've read.

Can anyone point me to where I might have found it?

I can't help suspecting that you're thinking of The Munchkin's Guide to Power Gaming.

BESM 2nd Edition contained a TvTropes-like overview of Japanese fiction phenomena, and that part was possibly mainly written by David Pulver, so it could be that the material you're remembering was in some other RPG supplement written by him. Other than GURPS Mecha, I mean.

I can't see a reference in BESM Space Fantasy or Big Robots Cool Starships which might have been 2 other possibilities.

Dash it all, you're quite right.

(Time to swap out my memory for something better, like a sponge.)
