Armor: Fine(Hardened) from Pyramid 3/33 Low Tech
This was mentioned in The Deadly Spring in Pyramid 3/33 Low Tech, on page 11. I did not find this in DF, LT or LTC2, and was wondering if it was just something theoretical or if it was from somewhere.

Well, I made rules based on the physics of deformation and penetration. "Hardness" is relative, and since the heat treating of really good armor is optimized to provide DR against known threats, optimizing it relative to arrowheads of quality is also quite feasible. But it was an original contribution, not taken from any previous book. I don't have my books with me, but the usual CF for Fine is what? +3, and +19 for Very Fine? |

CF is Cost Factor. So a CF of +1 means you add 1 to the multiplier of the weapon's cost (for a total of x2).
Low-Tech has an option for Hardened Steel, which can be applied to any metal armor (including mail and scale). It has a +4 CF and gives +1 DR. |

Thanks for the quick reply!
Fine(expertly fitted) is +9 CF, actually. I figure Fine(Hardened, Impaling) would be around +4 CF. Now that I think about it, maybe Fine(Edge Protection for Impaling) might also be neat. *continues pondering* |

Thank you all on the CF thing. I just didn't recall seeing the abbreviation anywhere except on these forums. So its use confused me :)

Re: Armor: Fine(Hardened) from Pyramid 3/33 Low Tech
Based off this thread, I've decided to make a few new armor modifiers available to my players (assuming they can find a craftsman that can do the work).
Fine(Edge Protection: Impaling) +3 CF Fine(Edge Protection: Piercing) +3 CF Fine(Edge Protection: All) +5CF Fine(Hardened 1: Arrows Only) +0.5 CF Fine(Hardened 1: Single damage Type) +1 CF Fine(Hardened 1) +4 CF On a slight side note, if you use the bow values from The Deadly Spring, a Heroic Archer is only slightly faster than a Musketeer (Pyramid 3/36) with 4 levels of Rapid reload from Gun Fu, and does less damage per shot. |
