helping escape with a hireling

two munchkins are in a situation, when they have to run away. one of them throws a die and fails to run away, before the other one could say something.
could the second munchkin sacrifice a hireling and help both of them run? or it's too late and he could only escape by himself?

A Hireling can help one or both, decisions up to the player who sacrificed the Hireling. (Read off out of date rules with Munchkin 5 but I'm pretty sure this hasn't changed.) In this situation, I'd say the person who sacrificed the Hireling would get away and the other screwed themselves over by being impatient. ^.^ Work fast but work smart.

The above is completely correct. Once you roll, you deal with the consequences unless you have a card that gets you out of it (e.g., Magic Lamp). Whether you sacrifice your own Hireling or someone else sacrifices one for you, you can't escape the Bad Stuff you've already gotten through a failed Run Away roll.

Bear in mind, you don't have to rely on out-of-date rules. All the rules, as up-to-date as they can be, are here.

I actually took that expansion out because my group wants only the color cards. :-P But thanks for the link, I'll be able to recite rules correctly now, woot.
