Nope! The penalty only applies if you're forced to Run Away. If you beat them, they get nothing from you.

However, I believe there ARE monsters that say you lose something "before the fight." Those ones are nasty.

I'm pretty sure the text in the Wight Brothers read: won't persue anyone of level 3 or less. Characters of HIGHER LEVEL lose two levels, even if they escape. So, if you have automatic escape because of low level you don't lose anything.
