GURPS Tactical Shooting

They were pretty good
Kit, formation, discipline
But we were better
— Some hack
GURPS Tactical Shooting, by Hans-Christian Vortisch, is hot off the virtual presses at e23. As hot as spent brass . . . as hot as the flash-bang going off in your fool face. Where GURPS Gun Fu brought you two-guns-blazing, banister-sliding insanity, Tactical Shooting covers well-drilled, well-equipped professional operators, their tactics, and their gear – the two books collectively giving you "GURPS Martial Arts, but for guns." It comes loaded with notes on realistic tactics and firearms handling, new character traits to reflect this training, and shooting styles that package it all together. It also includes an armory full of specialized weapons and accessories to complement those in GURPS High-Tech. So put your HK416D in Condition Zero and your mind in Condition Red, and take 'em all down.

I'm happy to see Follow-Up Shots (p14).

Be warned, everyone: The multiple references to character templates and guns in other products WILL make you want to buy more books.

So far, I've bought GURPS Classic: Cops on e23, and am waiting for GURPS Classic: S.W.A.T. to make its way from w23 to e23. (I already bought GURPS Classic: Special Ops, thankfully...)

I haven't much desire for a plethora of guns, so the High Tech: Pulp Guns 1 & 2 don't interest me.

More books, more books... Le sigh...

Heh, I imagine the comments will be a bit slower to come this time, if only because 87 pages = not an insignificant amount of reading time. This one is the Thanksgiving Dinner of recent GURPS releases. :)

-- The book is totally sweet. Should be in the library of any gamer who wants some realism in their game (and not just GURPS).

Minor nitpick: the title of Brian Underhill's excellent book (just like practically all real-world police units of that name) is spelled SWAT. Only the terrible telly series and the terrible movie are spelled S.W.A.T.

You can never have too many books . . . This is a good thing for you and for me . . .

Cheers

Yeah, and it's got a number of rules that are applicable to any realistic combat, not just firefights. It's looking pretty good.

Re: GURPS Tactical Shooting

Page 21 offers what look like novel suppression rules (making people keep their heads down) and better Surprise rules for ambushes as opposed to the 'suddenly a fight breaks out' that the Basic Surprise rules seem more tuned to.

Just downloaded it, if only I had another week to absorb all of the new stuff. So far, I really really like what I've read.
