Multiple Templates?
Hello everyone. I have recently begun to develop an interest in GURPS, and played and still do play Dungeons and Dragons. I want to know, how would I go about using a class/race system as that of D&D? So, does anyone have any experience with using multiple templates, one for a "race" and one for a "class?" If there is a page in the core basic books or fantasy hand book would you kindly direct me to it? Thank you!

Page 258 of the Basic Set is what you want to read. The Dungeon Fantasy books (especially "The Next Level") are pretty handy in that regard too.

Thank you so much! That gets me one step closer to GMing an actual game!

Re: Multiple Templates?
Take a look at the Dungeon Fantasy series for a worked example of a fantasy game with both race (in DF3) and "class" templates (in DF1, DF3, DF4, DF7, DF8, DF9, DF10, and DF12). Action 1 and 3 give examples for a modern day "cinematic action movie" type game.
Of course, the one of the benefits of GURPS is that you don't have to tie your game down to a class system if you don't want to. |

Re: Multiple Templates?
Just to show the facility, in dealing with an interpretation of Space Marines in the 40k universe I had a number of templates that you "bolted on" to create the character that you were after. Thus, you started off with the "Basic Template" (essentially racial), then added on the "Tactical Template(s)" (essentially a career template), and then took one of a number of optional specialist templates. Over the top of that you had a "Chapter Template," which was like a "cultural template" on top of that and... Well, you get the picture. :D
Of course, Space Marines in the 40k universe are a bit on the "cookie cutter" side so take with a pinch of salt. |
