Mutiliate The Bodies

Can this card be played after a player has drawn it as a reward for defeating the monster?

Is it being played after a combat? It is. That meets the requirements of the card, so yes.

With all due respect, this answer surprises me and actually raises more questions for me than it answers.

I've always interpreted "after combat" to mean

1) "immediately after combat, before anything else has been done".

You seem to be interpreting it as

2) "after combat, but before the end of the current turn".

Which of these, if either, is correct? If, for example, somebody plays a curse after the monsters are killed but before treasure is drawn, can Mutilate the Bodies still be played?

It has been a consistent ruling, starting back in about 2001, that Mutilate the Bodies can be played if it's drawn as part of the Treasure after a fight (and after the Treasure is divvied up, if necessary). It should be played before continuing on with the rest of your turn.

Option #1 ("immediately after combat, before anything else has been done") is correct, with one exception: if you draw the card as treasure. If you need to divide up the treasure, you can wait until after that as well.

Yep, as long as the MtB was drawn as treasure, the exception still applies.

Now, if you have MtB in your hand, and someone forces you to do something else (like deal with a curse) immediately after a combat, does that prevent you from playing MtB? That's a good question. Andrew?

I'm going to say that "immediately," in this case, means that you can't rearrange your gear, sell Items, play new Classes or Races, or otherwise do "card maintenance" and then play MTB, but responding to Curses or dealing with Bad Stuff doesn't slam the MTB window shut.
