Discarding items that are part of a deal

Here's the thing. I believe that when you make a deal with someone to help you like "you get the two treasures if you help me" you are obliged to actually have your helper get the treasures right?

In this case the deal was that my helper got the treasure AND one of my items. Before we defeated the monster I decided, as a thief, to discard an item in order to steal something and I discarded the item that was part of the deal. Now, it is very mean, very nasty, but I also thought it was very funny and legit. We had some discussion about it, but as owner of the game I decided to go on with it and so we did.
He was angry with me and I didn't get a slice of his pizza, but I wonder whether it's actually legit or not. Can someone tell me?

Thanks

It technically IS legit just not something you want to do. You did not follow your original deal. You refused to give him an item that you promised him for helping you and You SHOULD honor any deal that you make (even if the situation changes) or else no one will help you in future games.

Now if you had made the deal, beat the monster, given him the item THEN discarded something to steal it back....that would have been a better play.

Hell yeah! I have done that many times... BUT I would never renege a deal...

Are you guys saying that you can also take the treasure you promised someone?

When you make a deal with one of your items in play it must remain in play even when it goes to the person you promised it to.

As long as its in on the table and a small item you can discard any of your cards to attempt to take it back.

But what if someone else makes you discard an item with a curse for example. Could you decide to discard the item you promised to someone else? Or only if it's the only small item you've got?

If you Cursed yourself to lose the item or someone else played a Curse on you yes you could chose the small item. This would be better than just not giving him the item because you decide to.

It is merely frowned upon to chose to renege on a deal when you could honor it.

I did not choose not to give him the item
I discarded it for other purpose which I think is a big difference. I bend the situation so that the item is not there anymore and I can't fulfill the deal. That different from just not honor the deal

You RENEGED the deal... You earn the Cone of Shame!

Re: Discarding items that are part of a deal

You cannot steal while in battle. Part of battle is giving the required items from the deal to the person you made it with. After that is done THEN you can steal.

So in order to discard the item to power your ability you would have had to renege the deal.
