Gender question
 

I know since in real life I am Male, I start the game as Male. but if I draw a female warrior and play it, does that mean my character is female or am I Male?

the art on the card doesn't matter, you stay male, unless you get hit with a gender changing curse

I'm assuming that since it is a curse, a sex change effect will also persist through death, but will it also reset the -5 combat bonus on the first combat after death when a new hand is dealt?

The only time the -5 penalty applies is to your next combat. It does not reset when you die, but yes you are still changed. That's permanent.
