Cult Membership Card

I'm playing Munchkin Cthulhu and I have a Cult Membership Card, which is not usable by Cultists and which lets me choose to be treated as a cultist whenever I wish, and a permanent +3 bonus from Raving, which is discarded if at anytime the Cultist class is lost or the character dies. Is the permanent +3 bonus lost if I have to fight a monster which has a bonus against cultists and I choose to not be a cultist for the fight to avoid giving the monster that bonus and the Raving card must then be sent to the discards, effectively removing the permanent +3 bonus?

I'm leaning towards, "Yes, you'd lose the bonus and have to discard it," but I can't tell if I'm being logical or grumpy.

In all honesty, I need to work this one out post caffeine to see if that improves my outlook. :-)

Confused a bit here, would need to review the exact wording on the Cult Membership card - does it allow you to use Raving at all?

If it does, I think in our game we'd treat the Card as a Cultist class as long as you want to be a Cultist. Choosing not to be treated as a Cultist anymore would be equivalent to losing your class, so you'd lose Raving as well.

Since SJ himself said that he wanted the card to allow you to be treated as a Cultist for whatever you want to be considered a Cultist, that, quite honestly, means you could say you want to be a Cultist for Raving, but not one by the Monster. You could also be a Cultist for the bonus, but not for the victory conditions, denying the highest Level Cultist victory, assuming everyone else was a Cultist. Very, very powerful card, given that. . .

Wow! I'd never considered the card was actually THAT powerful. Completely changes my strategy if that card finds its way into my hand this week...

It is an extremely powerful card, indeed. However, there's an easy way to neutralize it: force the wielder to *actually* become a Cultist, rendering the CMC powerless.

Re: Cult Membership Card

I have recently acquired a Promo Cult Membership Card and brought it into use in tonights game.

The question asked today was whether or not Promo CMC is to be treated like the Cult Membership Card described above until the it is used as a GUAL bonus or if its use is limited strictly to the written bonus that the player gets as stated on the card of GUAL by having a passerby play their hand.

We elected to use it like a Bookmark GUAL and not as a CMC. Still, we're curious if the Promo CMC was intended to be used as a CMC until given away to the helpful passerby for the GUAL.

The promo Cult Membership Card has exactly and only the powers given on that card. I stress that I am talking about the promo card, not the one included in the actual set.

true but in all my times of playing cthuluwe have only seen sudden head blows twice and people much prefered to get rid of their madness instead which seem to be more common.

Re: Cult Membership Card

Besides the head blows alternate use, you also need a discarded cultist class, which in my group takes a long time to accomplish it seems.
