Magnificent hat and payroll tax

In a game today I had magnificent hat (I love getting that card). Payroll tax was played by another player on a third player. Does it affect me? The magnificent hat states it deflects curses drawn by or played on the wearer, but does not give advise about curse effects from other players affecting the whole party. The curse was not drawn by me or played on me but it was affecting me as I had a hireling.

I always feel like I've answered this question, but I can't find any evidence today. . . My current gut reaction is that you're not protected by the Magnificent Hat in this case, but if someone has better search fu today and can find a previous answer by Andrew or myself, feel free to point it out.

You seem to indicate the opposite here: http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=27694 .
And here (http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.p...49&postcount=2) is quoted text from the yahoo group attributed to you.

party, so it *was* played on you whether you were the intentional
victim or not. To keep the game from being halted by the curse being
infinitely redirected randomly (therefore reactivating the curse and
restarting the cycle), the *effect* of the curse is passed on to the
low-rolling sap. . . I mean, unfortunate soul. . . He loses 2 Levels,
while everyone *but* the MH wearer lose 1. And the guy wearing the MH,
kick his a$$, won't you. . . :-)

SJ and I favor thought #2.

Ok, going by the theories of thought #2

For Clarification..

When using Demented Dungeons, and comprehensive curses is in play - would the Magnificent Hat wearer then be completely immune to all curses while all the other munchkins get to roll to see who will be hit twice..

Ex:
In a 4 player group with Comp Curses up ~

P1 Draws curse to lose a card.., P1,2,3 all get hit by curse while P4 with MH is safe, then P1,2,3 have to roll to see which gets hit by the curse a second time..

So if P2 lost the roll, the curse would result in:

P1 - lose 1 card
P2 - lose 2 cards
P3 - lose 1 card
P4 with MH - laugh uncomfortably as the other munchkins plot their revenge..

Is that more or less right??

I usually use option 2. The munchkin wearing the hat is not hit with the curse; instead, someone else has the misfortune of being hit twice.
