User Made Items for GCA4
This is an effort to compile all the custom GCA stuff into one thread as I suggested. So here we go...
Several folks have made various add-ons for GCA4: Melange has been making several custom Character Sheets. Including his more than cool Flexsheet. Kuroshima has made two GURPS Spirits ritual magic data sheets, covering the techniques as both average skills and hard skills. Silverthorne has compiled an excellent list of quirks in a data sheet. Sheldrine has also made a custom sheet that can use potraits the size of a typical Neverwinter Nights© character portrait. I've got a fantasy equipment guide that I'll be adding to. Eric B has 4e conversions of Alien Races and Fantasy Folk and a few other goodies. You can find these files at Melange Madness Network, Corey's GURPS Stuff, and of course Eric's GURPSLand. If I missed your custom character sheet or data file post and let me know. I'll update the top post as needed. If you need your non-official stuff hosted for others contact Melange or Myself and we'll put them up. That's about it because I hate starting threads. |
Re: User Made Items for GCA4
If anybody wants my THS template conversions, I'll post 'em somewheres. However, they are somewhat different from other people's versions of the same stuff.

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Also if you're hosting any custom sheets of your own post and let folks know.
It's a lot easier for some to make their own tweaked versions of a data sheet if someone else has a base they can start from. Additionally I'm currently working on Traveller 4e updates with Lethe (I believe haven't heard from him) and if anyone wants to help out let me know. Right now I'm tackling Alien Races 1&2, races are done just working on the profession templates. |
Re: User Made Items for GCA4
I haven't even tried. Are the data sheets in GCA easier than the ones for GCB? I tried some custom ones in GCB and got frustrated before I was successful at it.

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
I have a selection of custom datafiles for GCA at the MyGURPS GCA Page with the following:
1. A GDF that adds in my house rules, for those who like them. It causes Per and Will to be based off of 10 (instead of IQ), reduces the value of age-related traits, fixes Arm ST/DX, adds the Diabetic disadvantage, includes several new Modifiers for advantages, and more. Check out the main MyGURPS page (link in my .sig) for details. 2. A GDF that adds the rules for Ritual Magic with two tweaks to improve it and prevent abuse: Path skills no longer default to core skills and spells are Average techniques instead of Hard. Small changes, but they really improve the Ritual Magic rules, in my experience. 3. The GDF for GURPS Mysteries, which is now part of the official data update. If and when I get around to converting the Professional Templates, you'll see them here first. 4. A GDF compilation of Talents and Wildcard! Skills -- all of the official ones from the various sourcebooks (so you don't have to include every single GDF in your dataset just to get the Talents) plus the best of the best from right here in the forums. I really recommend this one for the homebrew stuff alone. 5. (Just added) The GDF-in-progress for our GURPS Star Trek game. Not very polished, but it's got Starfleet Enlisted, Starfleet Academy, and Klingon Marine templates; rules, skills, and equipment for the Bat'leth; and racial templates for Klingons, Ullians (they were in one TNG episode) and an amphibious player-created race, the Nadissians. Instructions: I've also included a set of instructions explaining how to download, save, and install these files for anyone not familiar with the process. Feel free to look through and download any of these files and use them if you like them. |

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
OK, I've successfully completely converting my MAgic Items file to version 4. However, I still cannot find how to add, what under the old system was PD, and I guess is now considered DB. I checked the main file and it still listed PD as : pd(1) or whatever number, I tried this and got no difference in dodge parry or block. I do not want to have to put +1block +1 dodge +1 parry since that should be taken care of with a simple pd(1). Anyone have any tips? Armin is that even how it works in ver. 4?
Ring of Protection +1 ($5000), pd(1), basecost(5000), baseweight(.1), page(RC238) Sincerely Sean-Michael |
Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Okay, I've just updated my website and I now have a page just for GCA files. In addition to my house rules GDF (which I've just fixed a bug in -- if the Perception fix didn't work in the last one, please download this one instead) I've added a GDF for GURPS Mysteries and a GDF that compiles the canonical Talents along with some of the better ones from the forums, here. Link is in my sig.

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Sorry, I seem to have missed this when it was originally posted.

I was previously advised to remove PD from the protection window, which I did. Unfortunately, the fact of DB and Deflect were overlooked, so there's currently no way to add those there. I hope to get that back in the future. For now, if you really want a piece of gear such as the Ring of Protection to apply a defense bonus, you'll need to add the +1 Block, +1 Parry, +1 Dodge to the gives(). Armin |

How do you indicate that a weapon requires two hands in GCA?
|
Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Quote:
All weapons do include the little two-handed notation on MinST that's used in the weapons table († means it's two-handed, ‡ means it's two-handed and becomes unready, but both turn into black-boxes in the font used within GCA, though they print fine). Unfortunately the Character Sheet doesn't currently print MinST for melee weapons. While the "official" character sheet doesn't list MinST, it might be a good thing if Armin can adjust the one GCA uses to print it, both because MinST is important and because of the notation there. |

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
I've recently updated and added some new datafiles to the MyGURPS GCA page at
http://www.brainpuke.com/gaming/gurps/gca.html pk-houserules.gdf has been updated with fixes for several things (see the main page in my .sig for the full details) including a fix for Arm ST/DX and several new modifiers for advantages. talents.gdf has been updated with the new Talents from Banestorm. A few now-redundant ones have been pruned. I've also added in a list of Wildcard! Skills with full descriptions; some are official, some are mine, and most are from Douglas Cole (and are absolutely brilliant -- had to have 'em.) New GDF files include ritual-magic.gdf, which makes two small changes to the Ritual Magic rules that you can read about here and trek_templates.gdf which is just a rough datafile for our Star Trek game that has some useful templates and skills in it -- it wasn't designed for public release, but a few people have asked me for it, so I'm putting it up in case anyone else finds it useful, or has any advice on how things could be done better. I'm still getting the hang of Character (Professional) Templates. Anyways, check it out and grab whatever you want! |

Greetings all, I've got some new postings on my webiste.
Firstly I've updated the data files for my Fantasy Folk for GURPS 4e and Aliens for GURPS 4e with some of the new formatting and to take advantage of the new Innate Attacks setup. Next I've posted my first Character Sheet, which is really just a modification of Armin's Grimoire sheet to fit my needs a little better. I moved the skill column to the left of the Class Column and added [Points] to the column. I changed the default font size to make it a little smaller, adjusted the the column widths to minimize line wrapping, and tweaked a few of the default settings to my preferences. You can download GrimoireSmall.gcs here. |

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
I was thinking if it's possible do use the GCA to make the GDF files, loading none of the GDF's, like a blank GDS file, then make whatever you want to make, and then saving with a option to make a GDF file. I've tried to make a blank GDS file, but it crashes. only with the basic 4ed gdf it works.

Every ten levels of the disadvantage will lower Health by one point. I just need to figure out how to do that properly, and I'll be rolling. Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Hi!
I try to put some custom weapons into the GCA via writing a GDF. It works very well, but I also want to update some ChoiceLists with those new custom weapons... I tried i.e. merging the Arm Lock Skill from Martial Arts: Code:
#MergeTags in "SK:Arm Lock (%MeleeWeaponList%)" with "x(#ChoiceList(list(Custom1, Custom2)))"Is there a way to update those Choicelists or do I have to #ReplaceTag every Skill with the full x() tag? Regards, zoked |
Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Quote:
Note that the "MeleeWeaponList" is not actually a list of weapons, but a list of weapon skills. Note also that one of the reasons I added "[Skill]" versions of all of the techniques was so that Users could use non-standard or newly created skills with the techniques. |
Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Thanks :) So I know now.
I am aware, that it is skills, what I did ist to add weapons and their skills. I also saw the [skill] version of the techniques, buuuut... I find it more comfortable to choose from a list, so my custom weapon skills (like every other) will only show up for techniques you can really use them and, more important, the list of i.e. hit locations is already there. As I try to convince my players using the GCA rather than other not well calculating "freeware" tools, I'd like to make it as comfortable as possible for them (mostly because of ME saving much time, as I don't have to search the books, as pages are written on the character sheet... AND I don't have to recalculate.. AND I can write a GDA for house rules.. AND... :D ) Thanks! Regards, zoked |

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
I've just added a bunch of (50+) new GURPS Logos to my website for use with GCA4. These are some logos that can be used to replace the default logo in the upper-left hand corner of the Character Sheet printout; most are manipulations of various GURPS book covers. I personally like to theme the logo for whatever campaign I'm running.
Once you've downloaded the file unzip the it into your Sheets folder. The default is My Documents\GURPS Character Assistant 4\sheets\ To use these logos go to Tools -> Character Sheet Options -> select the character sheet then select your preferred sheet. For charactersheet.gcs the look for the section called Logo Options all the way at the bottom. In Phoenix look in the Font & Styling Options section for the Header/Footer Options. You can directly download the logos here: http://gurpsland.no-ip.org/images/GU.../GURPSLogo.zip |

Re: User Made Items for GCA4
Hi folks,
A while back, I was bored, and took GURPS HIGH TECH data file, and deleted all non-weapon entries from the file, and saved it as GURPS OLD WEST.gdf. Then I scrubbed it of all weapons TL 7 and higher and gave them new categories titled Old West - Subcategory (what ever the subcategory is/was). Once I got that to work, I was emboldened to try creating a new data file from scratch so to speak. I put together 119 elements from GURPS HIGH TECH ADVENTURE GUNS (and I didn't proof them yet for errors, so there are bound to be a few - as I am certainly not infallible when it comes to data entry!). For a while there, I could not get the file to load at all, this despite the fact that I divided up the data lines into three lines with the same elements as is found in the GURPS HIGH TECH data file. Then I started to find the small stuff that would make it impossible to load, and found that some entries that had 2.75" as part of the description can not be entered that way in the data file (substituted " for inch). So, finally, I finished the file. I used a macro to create the actual "guts" that went into the equipment file containing only the guns from GURPS HIGH TECH ADVENTURE GUNS - and it worked (not without some perplexing errors that took some time to weed out due to my inexperience). That macro will hopefully allow me to create my own weapons using Doug Coles ballistics formula, and real world data on weapons with real muzzle velocity and bullet weights. Clearly, this kind of data file would NOT be official, and about the only use for it might be someone who wants to use them for an ATE type campaign or something. Long story short, the macro works after a fashion, and can stand some improvements before I'd give it out to people. I'd also release the actual code as a text kind of thing and give people instructions on how to create their own macro on their own machine so that they can at least understand what is going on and how (VBA is essentially the dumb cousin of VB.NET). So, macro is available to anyone if they want it, and I can customize it for anyone who wants to customize it for their own use. The Adventure guns GDF can be given to someone, an hopefully they can verify the data is correct, and I will likely have a go at it myself before too long (just got a lot of things to do this weekend). So, how do I upload the file to some place, or who do I send the 86.6 kilobyte file as an email attachment to? I'm always open to suggestions on how I can improve things, and if someone wants to tell me how to set up say, an advantage section, or any other "sections" that is to be automated, feel free to email me saying "Hey Hal, want to work on a vba macro for me?" I'm really thankful for the work others have put into the data files, and being able to give back at least ONE file in return would make me feel "good" as it were. |
Re: User Made Items for GCA4
I've updated a Mage: The Ascension gdf to be compatible with 4th edition GURPS.
Corrections done as followed: Advantages Categories are Magi, Magi Spheres, and Magi Essences, Arete requires Avatar, Avatars need Essences (although I haven't figured out how to make essences pop up as required for Avatars yet), Skills Cleared out most skills because they were already in the basic book. Do is a specific name for an "Ultimate" or Origin style. If using Martial Arts, use something along those lines for Do. Skill-wise the only thing brought in here from before is the following: Area Knowledge the Umbra and Survival Umbra Arete has been modified so that it's a Will/VH skill with a limit on it based on your Arete level Rotes are included (quite a few rotes actually) from mostly 2nd & 3rd ed, some modified for the 20th Anniversary Edition. I've included a couple of home-brew rotes as well with explanations as to how they work. There's also a new "Blank Rote" which will ask you to name the rote, ask what spheres you want to use for it (do not use a single sphere more than once, just pick the highest level of that sphere), and it will automatically give you a -1 to every sphere beyond the first representing difficulty. They're setup as "Techniques", so 2 points required for the first level and 1 point for every additional level after that. (Thanks Armin and Eric for helping me get that ironed out). Re: User Made Items for GCA4
I like the Pyramid article "Knowing Your Own Strength" in 3/83, so I wrote it up as a GCA4 data file. This article changes how ST progresses Basic Lift and Basic Damage to a logarithmic model, and also makes ST more capable per point. The set comes with five variant files for calculating HP; details on the variants are given below.
Warning: Incomplete. This is also my first GCA file, so feel free to review and critique. :) https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...M6?usp=sharing I did some math and came up with five options for how to adjust HP to make room for the changes: 1. Convert from the new ST value to an "old ST value" and from there directly to HP. 1a. Upside: Maintains the relationship between Basic Lift and HP. 1b. Downside: Characters gain a lot of HP, such that it is always far more useful to increase ST than HP. 2. Use the formula in the book. 2a. Upside: It is in the book. 2b. Note: Adds a new stat to the Attributes tab. 2c. Downside: Since the new Weight stat is free, this requires GM adjudication. 3. Reverse the formula in the book; derive Weight from HP. 3a. Upside: It is also, arguably, in the book. 3b. Note: Adds a new stat to the Attributes tab. 3c. Downside: ST does not affect HP; and if it did, a ST 16 (human max in this system) character would weigh 512 lb. 4. Use a formula based on the elephant given in the book. 4a. Upside: It is sort-of in the book. 4b. Upside: We can derive this simply from ST. 4c. Downside: Basic Damage from ST increases faster than HP. 5. Maintain the ratio of HP to damage established by the default ST 10, HP 10, and 1d Basic Swing Damage. 5a. Upside: Maybe a better simulation? 5b. Downside: No real editing or verification whatsoever. So I left the default HP = ST as the default, and included all five as optional variant datafiles, because who needs sleep? (me) |
