Bad stuff vs. Platycore at level 1
I fought a Platycore at level 1, and lost. The card says discard your hand OR lose 2 levels. Because I can't lose 2 levels, did I have to automatically discard my hand? What if I was at level 2, would there be a choice then?
Thanks! |

When given a choice, and only one choice is possible, you must take the choice that actually causes some Bad Stuff to happen.

I know this is getting a bit preposterous but I had this happen to me today so not sure how to work this. |

Okay- what if someone has no cards in their hand but is level 2. Do they suffer no bad stuff as they can't lose 2 levels, or do they go to level 1?

If, however, you take the position that Bad Stuff *must* happen, then I suppose you would drop to 1st level again. |

Re: Bad stuff vs. Platycore at level 1
MM previously ruled on just this card that if you can't lose TWO levels, you must lose your hand. It is not enough for just SOME of the Bad Stuff to happen, it has to be the "choice" that results in ALL of the Bad Stuff.
"No matter what, I've always ruled that Bad Stuff has to be Bad if it can be. Beyond that, in the FAQ, we've made it clear that an empty hand is not a hand. So, given ALL of that, if you have no hand, you have to lose 2 Levels, and if don't have 2 Levels to lose, you have to discard your hand." However, Andrew ruled more recently that just a little bad stuff is enough, as long as it is bad. "Yes, you can choose the "lose 2 levels" option and lose 1 level, because that at least hurts you a little. You can't choose "lose 2 levels" if you have no levels to lose and the other option DOES affect you." |
