Close-combat penalties for reach?

I havn't got my books here at the moment (at least, not Basic), and noticed in Martial Arts that you get a penalty for the reach of your weapon in close-combat.

Now, for a weapon with multiple reaches (like the katana's 1, 2 reach) which would you use for penalties? The worst, or the best?

Longest reach applies, -4 to skill per hex of reach.

The official rules are use the highest Reach and penalise by -4 per yard of Reach.

As it happens, I think this inappropriate for certain weapons and consequently invoke houserules.

Ouch.

... well, guess I'll keep my eye on that lovely little Hidden Dagger in Dungeon Fantasy, then. ;D

Thanks guys!

PS: Loving the rules, Icelander - also, thanks for pointing out the Weapon Adaption perk. ;D My GURPS Conan Ziranian duelist does enjoy swinging around a broadsword with Fencing.

By all means, try out the rules, in your head if nowhere else. Report to me any potentially unbalancing ones or something that doesn't quite pass your plausibility threshold.

Ideally, try to convince your GM to apply some of them in a game and pass on the objections he may raise. Or, alternatively, of course, the low-down of how they work in play.

I need the rules playtested and the forums are the place for obsessive nit-pickers with too much free time. ;)
