Bad stuff: You lose items worth of 1000 gold. If you haven't that much value you lose everything you have.

Do we lose our hand cards too?

You lose Items. You do not lose cards from your hand.

Unless a card SPECIFICALLY and EXPLICITLY targets your hand, assume that your hand is always safe.
