NFS--Steeds are Big
 

In Need for Steed there's a monster whose Bad Stuff states: "If you have a Big Item to hide behind, you're safe. Otherwise..."

If I have a Steed does this qualify as a Big item to hide behind?

If yes, do I have to be riding it, or can I hide behind a Steed that I am carrying but not riding? This question presumes that I can ride 1 steed and have another carried/unused since steeds are items with gold value.

But you could, if I am not mistaken, have just one steed that you are not currently using.

I assume to indicate you were not using (receiving the bonus from) the steed you would place the card sidewise, like an item that is being "carried but not used" and you could hide behind that for the sake of the monster in the OP.

Technically the rules say that steeds are big items that "carry themselves", but the image of a munchkin hiding behind the big horse that he is carrying but not using is too much to resist.

Steeds in play are active. You can't have a Steed you are not "using."

Just had the tv commercial about wreaking you car and pulling a new one out of the trunk to replace it flash through my mind. So, if your a Dwarf, you can't have a 2nd steed over to the side as a spare?

Yes, but then that Steed's active, too. . .
